Zeemote Good news for the good old Zeemote as the device has been saved from going extinct by Aplix last week. Aplix decided to acquire the company that went into problems earlier this November.

Aplix is knows as a Japanese consumer electronics company and has put an undisclosed sum on the table to get all the assets from Commonwealth Capital Ventures. Though some staff members have been reported to be forced to exit the company, key employees will stay where they are.

Next to the Zeemote, Aplix also owns JBlend, which is pre-installed on over a 100 million devices already. The Zeemote could stimulate uptake of this Java platform that also allows TV-out functionality.

Ryu Koriyama, CEO of Aplix, said, "Functional control of the mobile device and its applications is a huge opportunity as the sophistication and capability of devices increases exponentially. With the acquisition of Zeemote we are in a unique position to take a lead in the supply of both content and peripherals which will significantly improve the end-user experience."
