Following a lot of speculation last month, Microsoft has finally opened the Windows Marketplace to developers. Developers will have to own a Live ID and be willing to shake down $ 99 to get started.
The initial version of the Windows Marketplace is strictly aimed at the Windows Mobile 6.5 release later this year. There is no news on when Windows Mobile 7 applications and games can be submitted. Developers will get a 70% kickback.
Microsoft promises extensive testing of the applications and games which are submitted. Developers will receive extensive test reports to make sure they can spend as much time as possible on quality improvements.
