According to a spokesman at Vodafone NL, the operator will follow O2 by launching it's own App Store for Vodafone subscribers. The launch is only weeks away according to the interview he gave to a Dutch website.
According to Joost Galema from Vodafone NL, the store will be filled with free apps and mobile games from third parties as well as Vodafone. The option to download paid apps and games will be added later.
With the app store, Vodafone is not targeting a new revenue stream. Instead it hopes that new apps will help consumers to make more use of the capabilities of the phone and the network.
Next to downloading the software OTA, Vodafone will also allow side loading as the store will be fully available via PC and MAC browsers. The name of the store hasn't been shared as well as details on why paid apps and games will be delayed.
