According to developer BlueMedialab, Vodafone is about to launch their own version of the Android Market. It will be called Android App Shop and it will launch in 8 European markets.
Vodafone’s Android App Shop will launch in The Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and the UK. Android App Shop will be part of Vodafone’s 360 experience and the store will be managed by Arvato Mobile in Germany.
At the launch, Vodafone wants to have the App Shop beefed up with free apps and games. Arvato is actively contacting developers who already launched successful free apps on the Android Market. Ad-Funded apps are also allowed but it seems Vodafone is not happy about launching adult content at the moment. The rev-share is 70:30, similar to Android Market. The agreement says Vodafone will not calculate any additional fees, but might do so in the future.
Vodafone’s App Shop will be pre-installed on operator branded Android phones from June 2010 onward. Consumers will be billed through their phone bill to keep the payment process as simple as possible.
Congratulations
