Vivendi to Acquire Activision

December 3rd, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | No Comments »

VivendiVivendi has plans to take over Activision. The new company that would be called Activision Blizzard would be the new global market leader in gaming.

Currently, EA is dominant in the world of games. This year, EA has made 3.2 billion this year while the combined revenues of Activision and Blizzard should be worth 3.8 billion. If we look at the mobile gaming side of both companies, there are huge gains. Vivendi has created a solid distribution network, lead by Paul Maglione which is publishing several titles based on Viveni’d own IP every year. Activision however always licensed their titles to third parties like Hands-On. After the acquisition, Vivendi will gain a great portfolio of brands including Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. The acquisition would make gaming the core business for Vivendi that also owns record company Universal and TV and Film studio Canal+.
