According to Bloomberg, Verizon has announced that it will not be selling Windows Phone 7 devices until 2011. In fact, Verizon will ‘probably release a phone’ in 2011 which doesn’t sound all too well for the OS.
No support from Verizon will mean slow penetration in the US and that will have its effect (though small) on word of mouth marketing in other markets as well. The reason for Verizon to not push the OS yet could have to do with the KIN devices. Microsoft partnered with Verizon but killed the project only two months after launch. Another reason could be that Verizon is waiting for the OS to be competitive with the Android and iOS platforms as it doesn’t support multitasking or cut&paste when it hits the market.
Needless to say, this will also have effect on the number of apps sold in the US on Windows Marketplace.
UPDATE – As it turns out, there are no CDMA based devices at launch. That is why both Verizon and Sprint will not be launching.
