More Symbian news today as the UIQ arm (owned by SonyEricsson and Motoroal) has published version 3.3 of their Symbian UIQ platform.
Version 3.3 is carefully build on top of Symbian 9.3. It adds Opera Mobile (which is great for Greystripe) 9.5, Opera Widgets and the UIQ Dashboard.
The new UIQ Dashboard is a clever mix between the iPhone layout and the traditional S60 layout. Also, the Dashboard allows a great amount of customization for addressing different market segments.
Antony Edwards, Vice President Developer Product Marketing, Symbian, said "UIQ 3.3 will bring a host of new opportunities for developers wanting to innovate on a powerful user interface platform, including new APIs such as SQL. Symbian OS v 9.3 strengthens the offering for handset manufacturers with its robust and scalable OS, enhanced phone performance and hardware capabilities, allowing them to bring differentiated phones to market more quickly."
