U.S. Market Goes Smarty

November 26th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Research & Stats | 1 Comment »

NpdgroupFor many developers and publishers, the U.S. is the primary market to conquer with mobile games and applications. Recent NPD research results show the amount of smartphones in the market is growing and so the possibility to sell native mobile games.

According to NPD’s findings, currently 11% of the phones sold in 2007 are smartphones. A major push in this field was the release of the closed iPhone. Nevertheless, devices carrying Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian or Blackberry firmwares are growing. With the recent announcement of Google’s Android, the percentage will only grow and of course, so will the percentage of smartphones that carry Linux on board.
