Tomb Raider Mobile in full 3D

Eidos Mobile announced it will release Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider: Legend” on mobile phones this December. The game will be close to a full port of the 2006 console version, meaning a lot of attention for cut-scenes and movement. For UK gamers, the game will only be available on Orange, but the rest of the world shouldn’t face any embargo’s on the game. Please read the full press release below.

Award winning franchise available in 3D on mobile handsets

Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, is ushering in a new era of games for mobile phones with confirmation that Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend will be released on all compatible handsets in December 2006. In the UK the game will be available exclusively through Orange until the beginning of 2007.

Breaking the mould for games on mobile handsets Tomb Raider Legend for mobile puts Lara Croft in your pocket in this conversion of the hit 2006 console title. Emulating the gameplay and cinematic action of the successful console version of Tomb Raider Legend, the mobile game lets Lara jump, sidestep, roll, shoot, climb, and use the grappling hook to navigate the 3D environment.

Based on a revolutionary game engine, Tomb Raider Legend for mobile takes advantage of the increased processing power and graphics capability of the latest mobile phones, giving users an unprecedented gaming experience.

Simon Protheroe, New Media and IT Director at Eidos, commented, “The mobile phone is the biggest selling games platform in the UK, with people regularly enjoying action and strategy games for entertainment. Now that handsets offer such improved performance, we are able to provide a more immersive gaming experience for the mobile generation.”

The 3D mobile version adds to the success that the brand has already had on mobile and mirrors the success of a brand which has enthralled gamers for ten years and is still one of the best selling videogame franchises of all time, with over 30 million copies sold.
