Think Services: iPhone Dominates Over Wii Development

February 8th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Research & Stats | No Comments »

Think-services Think Services has interviewed 800 game developers in the US and found out that the iPhone was becoming more and more popular while many are considering to abandon Nintendo’s Wii.

Over 25% of the respondents have showed interest in developing for mobile platforms according to the survey. Three years ago, this was only 12%. The writer of the report thinks the iPhone and iPod Touch are the devices that have inspired the developers. When taking a look at the Wii, only 30% of the developers is still interested in the platform. Three years ago, this was 42%.

Another trend is an increase in smaller studios. There are 7% more studios that have less than 50 employees compared to three years ago. The writer thinks this is because a lot of big publishers/developers had to reduce headcount in 2009.
