Texas Instruments has shown off a new mobile CPU called the OMAP 5. One of the key features of the OMAP 5 CPU is that it consumes 60% less energy compared to its predecessors.
The OMAP 5 doesn’t only save energy, it is also optimized for 3D support and it should be strong enough to power internet tablets with it’s 2 ARM Cortex A15 MPCores (up to 2Ghz each). Even though the CPU is pretty much ready, the first devices with the OMAP 5 CPU are not expected to surface this year.
