China Finally Allows Google to Acquire Motorola Mobility

Following grants from the EU and US, China now also approved the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google. With this final approval in the pocket, Google can proceed with its plans to acquire Motorola Mobility for its IP and probably put the rest of Motorola Mobility back on sale ;-).

Nielsen: 49,7% of US Subs own a Smartphone

As of February, Nielsen reports that nearly half of the US residents with a mobile contract own a smartphone. In February 2011, the percentage of smartphone owners was just 36%.

Dell Ends Smartphone Sales in the US

Dell has stopped selling their Venue and Venue Pro smartphones in the United States. Both phones run on Windows Phone OS. No new smartphones have been announced.

Nielsen: iOS Popular with Handheld Gamers

According to new research at Nielsen, iOS devices upped total playtime by seven percent year-on-year between 2011 and 2012. The study also shows that iOS devices are very popular with handheld gamers.

Playbook Launces in North America

Research in Motion has silently launched the Playbook in the US and Canada. RIM even canceled the press event that should help get the Playbook in the hands of the many BlackBerry fans. According to analysts, this move from RIM is because of the many negative reviews of the Playbook that are on the internet.

AT&T Acquires T-Mobile US

AT&T has bought competitor T-Mobile US from Deutche Telecom. AT&T paid $39 billion for the operator that just introduced the new Sidekick to the North American market.

ComScore: US Smartphone Userbase Increased With 60%

Comscore has released it’s latest US smartphone market metrics through their MobileLens report. Android continues to grow in the market while Samsung is now the leading OEM.

28% of US phones is a Smartphone in Q3

According to the most recent numbers from Nielsen, 28% of US cellphones is a smartphone. Amongst those consumer that bought a new phone over the past six months, 41% chose a smartphone, up 35% compared to Q2.

Samsung Starts TV App Development Competition

ComScore: Android Continues Growth in US

While all platforms lost marketshare, Android id continuing growth in the three month period ending May 2010. At that time, 49.1 million US citizens owned a smartphone.
