Silverlight Hits Symbian

In the shadow of the Windows Phone 7 Series new, Microsoft has also released a beta version of Silverlight for Symbian. The Beta is aimed at touchscreen devices like the N97 and 5800 from Nokia.

CeBit: Nokia C5 Brings Symbian to the S40 Demographic

MWC: Symbian Foundation Shows Symbian^3

Symbian has revealed the third generation of the Open Source OS called Symbian^3. One of the most important aspects will be the strong graphical overhaul for the UI that should make it more attractive for the consumer.

Months ago, Nokia formed the Symbian Foundation to house the Symbian OS and make it an Open Source OS. Today, four months earlier than expected, the sourcecode has been put online.

IDC: Android to be 2nd Mobile OS by 2013

IDC expects Android to be the second biggest smartphone operating system by 2013. By that time, there will be over 390 Million devices in the market that have Google’s OS installed.

Smaato: Symbian is still Dominating – UPDATED

According to research from Smaato, Symbian is still the leading platform in their advertising network (Based on CTR). Their conclusion is in line with a report from Canalys over the third quarter of 2009.

Nokia Announces ‘1’ Maemo Phone for 2010

Though Nokia announced Maemo as replacement OS for its high end handsets (and so, replacing Symbian), the company has revealed toward Reuters that it will release only one Maemo phone in 2010.

Samsung Drops Symbian for Bada

Samsung has announced a new Open Source OS called Bada. The first Bada device is expected to hit the shelves during the first six months of 2010. To warm up developers, it announced that Bada will replace Symbian OS.
