Playstation Suite SDK Enters Beta

Sony’s SmartWatch Hits the States

Sony has released its SmartWatch in the US. The SmarWatch is a followup to the SonyEricsson LiveView and allows Android phones to send updates to it. In return, the SmartWatch can be used as a remote for mobile apps.

Sony Restructuring Leads to 10.000 Layoffs

Sony’s recent restructuring announcements will mean a loss of jobs for 10.000 of its employees. Sony’s Kaz Hirai announced it will take the company 12 months to let the employees go.

Sony One Combines Xperia and Vaio Branches

Under Sony’s CEO to be (starting April 1st) Kazuo Hirai, Sony will be restructured. The restructuring leads to a new Sony with a three-pillar approach. In that approach, the Xperia and Vaio products will be coming from a combined unit.

Sony Releases Custom Rom Manual for Xperia S

Sony’s new flagship device, the Xperia S, is the first to run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon S3 SoC. Though Sony already made the bootloader available, the company felt the urge to release a manual for those eager to build their own Android roms.

Sony Starts Sony Ericsson Rebranding Campaign

Sony Debuts Floating Touch Technology

Today, Sony introduced their new Xperia Sola smartphone. The device, running on a 1Ghz dual-core CPU and Android 2.3 (ICS upgrade coming) introduces a new technology to developers called Floating Touch.

Playstation Suite SDK in Open Beta Next Month

Next month, developers can start making use of the open beta SDK for the Playstation Suite service. Sony has performing closed beta testing before, but stuck to mostly Japanese, US and UK developers.
