HP Makes WebOS Open Source

The soap around Palm’s good old WebOS seems to continue at HP. The company has now announced that it will make the WebOS platform open source. HP acquired Palm and WebOS about one and a half year ago in the hope that it would bring HP the cutting edge technology they needed to become a big player in the smartphone and tablet markets.

Palm Launches WebOS 2.0 SDK

Palm has announced the availability of the WebOS 2.0 SDK. WebOS 2.0 is expected to ship later this year and the release of the Beta SDK is a signal that the company is in final stages of development.

Shareholders Approve Palm Acquisition

During a special meeting, Palm’s shareholders have approved the acquisition of Palm by PC giant HP. The board of Palm had already agreed on the acquisition by the company.

HTC Will not Acquire Palm

According to Reuters, a source within HTC has confirmed that the Korean cellphone vendor will not be acquiring Palm. HTC decided so after checking Palm’s financials.
