Jobcuts at HP’s WebOS Division

As WebOS is transitioning into an open source operating system, HP has announced it will be letting go of another 270 employees that worked on the operating system. HP will try to place those employees at other parts of the company.

Symbian-foundation Months ago, Nokia formed the Symbian Foundation to house the Symbian OS and make it an Open Source OS. Today, four months earlier than expected, the sourcecode has been put online.

Qualcomm’s Brew Free for All

Brew The past year, many smartphone platforms have gone open source, meaning that smartphones have become a lot cheaper to manufacture. To avoid losing marketshare to smartphone platforms, Qualcomm has decided to open up Brew and make it a free platform for dumbphones.

Admob adMob has been very successful on platforms like the iPhone, but Palm’s WebOS was still uncovered by the company. To support developers, the company released an open source SDK for ad invocation.

Palm-one Coming December, we will see a very interesting update on Palm's WebOS. The company will be allowing apps to be installed from third party channels and will drop the $99 fee for open source apps.

Id Software Makes Wolfenstein 3D Open Source for iPhone
