Intel and Samsung Present Tizen 1.0

Intel and Samsung have launched version 1.0 of the new Tizen operating system for smartphones. Tizen is a combination of MeeGo (once developed by Intel and Nokia) and Bada OS from Samsung. The whole system is based on the Linux kernel. Developers can start downloading the Tizen SDK’s, but have to realize there isn’t any Tizen hardware… yet.

IDC: Android to be 2nd Mobile OS by 2013

IDC IDC expects Android to be the second biggest smartphone operating system by 2013. By that time, there will be over 390 Million devices in the market that have Google’s OS installed.

Nokia Shifting High-End Handsets to Linux?

According to Reuters, Nokia's Ukko Lappalainen has confirmed that the company is exploring the possibilities to run Linux on their high end mobile phones instead of good old Symbian.

Motorola Ditches UIQ and Linux

Motorola
In order to streamline it's handset offering, Motorola will no longer offer UIQ and Linux based devices to the market. Instead, the full focus will be on Windows Mobile, Android and it's own P2K.
