Apple ‘Launched’ iPad 2.4

While The New iPad launched, it seems Apple also launched a totaly new iPad 2 16GB. During the presentation, Apple said it would remain selling the iPad 2 16GB model next to the New iPad. It didn’t say it had actually improved the iPad 2 hardware in the new 2.4 model.

iPad 3 to run on an A6 CPU

BGR has got its hands on a photo showing iBoot running on a prototype of an iPad 3. The feedback that iBoot is providing is pretty interesting. It displays that the iPad 3 is (as expected) running on Apple’s new A6 CPU. The new CPU should be a quad-core model giving Apple the power to improve the screen (probably go retina) and combat Asus’ newest Transformer.

Cheap Dual-Core CPU’s from Qualcomm

Qualcomm has introduced two new CPU’s for the production of cheap smartphones. The MSM8225 and MSM8625 both run on 1Ghz processors but have an Adreno 203-GPU which is less powerfull compared to the Adreno 205-GPU that is found in smartphones like the new Nokia Lumia 800 and the HTC Desire HD.

MWC: Nvidia Joins the Quad Core Race

Following yesterday’s announcements from Qualcomm, Nvidia has also announced it will be shipping quad core mobile CPU’s to vendors world-wide.

Texas Instruments Announces the OMAP 5 CPU

Texas Instruments has shown off a new mobile CPU called the OMAP 5. One of the key features of the OMAP 5 CPU is that it consumes 60% less energy compared to its predecessors.

HTC and Nokia to Support Dualcore CPU’s

As phones become more advances, they become more like PC’s in our pockets. It is a rather old way of looking at things, but both Nokia and HTC prove it is still right as both start supporting dualcore CPU’s in their phones in 2011.

RIM Announces Dualcore Support for BlackBerry

Research in Motion has announced that it will be releasing BlackBerry devices based on dualcore processors. Current models have single core CPU’s from Marvell.
