Windows licences have been over-complicated in the past years. There are so many editions, consumers often don’t know what to purchase. With Windows 8, that will change as Microsoft is releasing ‘only’ three versions of the operating system.

Sony: Vita OS Ready for Smartphones and Tablets

Sony has informed the press that the OS of the Playstation Vita (which launched in the EU next week) is flexible enough to run on both Smartphones and Tablets which could potentially mean Sony has built the OS as a potential replacement for Android. Sony also noted it had no plans to use the OS for phones or tablets at this time.

AMD Won’t Build ARM CPU’s

There have been some rumours going around that AMD would have acquired a licence to build ARM based CPU’s. The vendor has now announced it has no plans for ARM chips at all.

Microsoft Developing ARM Branch of Windows 7?

If rumors are right, Microsoft is nearly ready with a special version of Windows 7 that is able to run on ARM-based processors. This would improve Windows 7’s scalability toward tablet based devices.

MGF Announces Sponsors and Partners

It’s going well with the MGF event. Last week, they signed up AdMob, ARM, Scoreloop, GetJar, the EGDF, the IGDA (known from board member Tim Langdell’s who sues anybody that writes the word EDGE), IDE Agency and the Dutch Games Association as new event partners.

ARM Invests in Android Chipsets

ARM has setup a new ‘Android Solutions Center’ in order to ease and speed up development of Android powered hardware. The company hopes it will increase the number of Android powered gadgets on the market.

Airplay Goes Beyond Mobile

Around the industry, we all know that 3D games are expensive to produce, hard to port and so, hard to make real money with. Yet companies like Ideaworks3D and Fishlabs keep fighting to stay in the market. Ideaworks3D seems to be succeeding by attracting their latest investor, ARM.
