ABI: App Store Generated 5.6 Billion Downloads

According to a report from ABI Research, Apple’s App Store has generated 5.6 billion downloads in 2010. With this number of downloads, it is safe to say Apple is the biggest player yet.

Scoreloop Announces ‘Go Android’ Program

ComScore: Android Passed RIM in the US

Just like Nielsen, ComScore also calculated that Android has passed BlackBerry OS in the Unites States. According to ComScore, Android has 31.2% of the market making Google the dominant player.

RIM to Expand Ping Onto iPhone and Android!?

If rumors are right, BlackBerry is developing special versions of BlackBerry Messenger for both the iPhone as well as for Android. Both new versions would be paid apps though usage after purchase is free.

GetJar Secures $25 Million Investment

In a third round of financing, Get Jar has secured $25 million in capital. Though the company is running open app stores for multiple OS environments, the money will mainly be used for a push into Android.

MWC: Unity’s Union to Distribute for Xperia Play

Unity has announced that it will be bringing games to SonyEricsson’s new Xperia Play through it’s Union games distribution unit. Unity’s 3D engine was already used for many of the new Playstation Suite games.

MWC: HTC Releases Android 2.4 Tablet
