Symbian UIQ Files for Bankruptcy

January 5th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Symbian | No Comments »

We already reported that all companies that once used Symbian's UIQ platform, have abandoned the Symbian UIQ company. Since Nokia announced that it will integrate UIQ's best parts into S60, it was obvious that the company behind UIQ was set to die.

Last week, the Symbian UIQ company filed for bankruptcy. In 2008, the company housed 350 employees. The current employees will receive their salaries as long as possible and UIQ gives them all the room they need to find new jobs. With Symbian leaving the market, it gives room for S60 to grow further into the touch screen market.
