Symbian has done some great updates that should aid developers in creating better mobile gaming experiences and also a smoother way to progress through the Symbian signing process.
On a technology level, Symbian introduced two new technologies called Screenplay and Freeway. Screenplay is al about the way graphics and animation are processed. Screenplay should allow a lot of graphic effects without draining the battery too fast. On the network side, Symbian released Freeway, which is a total new networking system. With Freeway, networks can be switched to allow use of high bandwidth technologies like WiMax.
The Symbian Signed process has received some new policies that should allow better processing of mobile games. Open Signing for example has been extended to 1.000 IMEI’s instead of the 100 IMEI’s that was previously possible which allows more devices to test the application.
For applications that don’t access vital Symbian functions, there is Express signing. With Express signing, developers with publisher id’s can quickly sign their games and applications starting as cheap as $ 20,-.
