After the news that UIQ was abandoned by SonyEricsson and Motorola, a lot of developers feared that a beautiful platform was going to waste. Well, no need to worry just yet…
During a press conference in Tokio, Lee Williams announced that both UIQ and MOAPS will be integrated into the S60 platform. This is not a strange move as UIQ and MOAPS have a stronger focus at touch screen hardware.
Lee Williams also provider more details on the plans to make Symbian open source. At this moment, the foundation planned to open up in June 2010. The source code will be available under the Eclipse Public License 1. Symbian will also release an API that will help developers to access hardware directly.
Congratulations
