Strategy Analytics: Nokia Dominates Windows Phone Sales

February 25th, 2012 by Roelof Posted in Platforms: Windows Phone | No Comments »

Nokia’s Windows Phone business seems to be successful, or at least successful enough to put the Finns in the leading position when it comes to selling Windows Phone based devices, leaving HTC as second place.

This news comes from Strategy Analytics which calculated that Nokia’s first Windows Phone device late 2011 put the company in the leading spot. Both Nokia and Microsoft worked closely on the release of the N8 smartphone and from what we have heard, Microsoft pretty much paid for all advertising around this new device.

In the final quarter of 2011, Windows Phone sales went up 36% compared to Q3 2011. In total, 2.7 million Windows Phone devices had been sold of which 900.000 had been Nokia’s (33%). In that same period, Apple sold 37 million iPhones and Google activated 76 million Androids…

Nokia will be presenting ‘significant industry news’ during the MWC. We will be liveblogging during these announcements.
