Sony: “We put out a lot fewer games than the pure-plays”

March 31st, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Marketing Strategies | No Comments »

Sonypictures_2In an interview with RCR News, Sony Pictures spoke about upcoming mobile game releases and a bit about the strategy behind the ‘small’ portfolio.

Eric Berger, VP of Mobile Entertainment explained that Sony Pictures is very carefull about the titles they release as mobile games. The company only releases about 1 game a month. This makes sure that Sony Pictures is giving the mobile games the proper marketing support they need.

Sony Pictures is in a unique possition in the market as they have all the IP sitting within one group. Mobile game releases are categorized into film, television, console or original IP. This has proven to be a successful strategy to the company.

For this year, Sony Pictures announced the release of Rock & Roll Jeopardy, Afterworld, Quantum of Solance and LocoRoco. More details in the original interview.
