Sony to Acquire SonyEricsson?

March 18th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | 2 Comments »

Sonyericsson
The latest industry rumours say that Ericsson is interested in selling it's share of SonyEriccson to JV partner Sony. Does this mean that the much rumoured PSP phone will come anyway?

According to the details we received, there are various parties who are interested in obtaining Ericsson's share in the JV. Sony however, is the favourite as that would allow a better integration of the mobile unit into the Sony portfolio. It would also open up new possibilities for the PSP brand. The PSP brand is the only brand in the Sony portfolio that was not turned into a mobile phone yet.

      With Vaio, Rolly, Bravia.

Bravia is used by SE on the Asian market, where they have a lot of TV based devices. Rolly is not a product line yet. Vaio is a good one. The only reason I can think of there is that it is a netbook/notebook brand, so it’s already closely affiliated with mobile. WHo knows though as it would fit nicely on the smartphone range.
