Sony Pictures Mobile Europe Closes – Rectification

April 18th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | 1 Comment »

Sonypictures
More hot news on this Friday afternoon as we just received the news about Sony Pictures Mobile closing it’s offices in Europe. It seems Sony Pictures Mobile had some problems to become profitable in Europe.

It seems there is some news afterall on job losses at Sony, however it didn’t concern Sony Pictures mobile, but Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE).

With this news, we can say that James Bond’s Casino Royale was the last mobile gaming project to roll out of the European division that was stationed in London. Most employees would have left the office today, the last ones will leave on Tuesday. What will happen to the other Sony Pictures Mobile divisions is at this moment unknown. Is this the first big company not to reach 2008?

Ok, it seems one of our sources has been wrong on this one. We are always very carefull with the rumors we get and check them as good as possible. For the first time however, we are wrong as you can reed below 🙁

Hi Arjan, It appears that you have some inaccurate information. I am the Senior Vice President of Mobile Entertainment at Sony Pictures based in London. We are currently releasing Wheel of Fortune and Spider-man 3 mobile games in every major market throughout Europe. With regards to operations, we continue to build the team across Europe. I would advise removing the blog as it is false.
      Thanks
