S60 Receives Touch Screen Support

October 19th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Symbian | No Comments »

S60Not only Symbian OS has made some great progress on expanding Symbian functionality, but also Nokia, owner of the S60 Symbian platform announced advances as they now support touch screens.

With the support of touch screen interfaces, S60 grows a big part closer to it’s competitor UIQ (owned by SonyEricsson and Motorola). With this update, S60 now allows hardware to support QWERTY, Touch Screen and combined inputs for smartphone development.

For developers of 3rd generation Symbian games, there will be no big need to adapt the code to the new series of S60 symbian devices. Older software will probably face problems though. Nokia will soon start making available tools to optimize the gameplay experience on touch screen enabled phones.
