According to the German Financial Times, the love between Nokia and Symbian might be over soon. The vendor would switch to their other open source OS called Maemo.
The reason for this should lay in the fact that Symbian has too much problems to keep up with popular competitors RIM and iPhoneOS. Developing a new version of Symbian that is able to compete with these OS's would take about two years and that is just too long. That new version's UI would be based on QT, which Nokia already uses on Maemo.
Nokia is already experienced with Maemo. The company uses this OS in it's series of internet tablets.
If this news is true (and the switch would be announced at Nokia World), it would mean a big kick in the back for Symbian. Symbian S60 has been able to survive under Nokia while Symbian UIQ was already dismantled when Nokia bought those remainders from SonyEricsson and Motorola. Nokia invested
