Research 2 Guidance has released an app store report which reveals that most of Apple’s competitors’ app/games channels grow much faster than the App Store over Q1 2010.
Though Apple is still dominating the market by size, the store grew only 41% over the first quarter. The App Cataloge from Palm showed the biggest growth at 124% followed by Ovi with 115% and Android Market at 108%. Fourth is BlackBerry App World at 49% while Apple take fifth place. Windows Marketplace is at the bottom with 27% growth.
In actual numbers, Apple is still outperforming the competitors. In Q1, 550 apps launched on a daily basis (over 50.000 in total). With that many launches, search and discovery is getting more and more important and Apple is also stimulating developers to look for consumers at alternative places.
Though it took only the third place when it comes to growth, Android Market is still the second biggest channel in the market. During Q1, over 20.000 apps launched.
R2G also tracked several smaller app stores. GetJar launched 1.500 new apps in Q1 which is a +2% while competitor Mobango shows a 65% growth over the same period. Growth of the operator stores is much smaller compared to the vendor stores.
