PSP Minis vs. PSone Channel

Sony-psp-minis Following our quick PSP vs. iPod review yesterday, we are taking a deeper look at the the competition which Minis is receiving from the classic PSone titles that PSN is offering gamers.


On a technical level, both are very different. Minis games tend to stay below 100MB whereas PSone classics can span well over a gigabyte of gameplay. One of the biggest PSone titles available is Final Fantasy XII which is over 1300 MB. Next to that, the games where made for older hardware, so the graphics and effects are not overwhelming any more. A bigger problem PSone games on the device are facing is the screen size. They are often made for PAL or NTSC resolutions which are a lot smaller.. The result is a tiny square box in the middle of the screen where you will be spending many hours.So it's safe to say there is no reason to complaint as the two 'platforms' have their pro's and cons here.

What we did notice however is the similarity in the pricing strategy. Actually, it's highly competitive! Though the Minis are priced between
