In an interview with Develop, Sony announced the possibility of the PSP Minis ending up on a UMD. Release on UMD is very interesting for the older PSP models that will remain popular in markets where Wi-Fi is less developed like South America.
The benefit of reaching markets with a physical medium is something Apple still can't match with the App Store as their device is pretty much depending on (wireless) internet to purchase anything. It also means that consumers don't have to own a creditcard for PSP minis.
