Playbook Launces in North America

April 20th, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: BlackBerry | No Comments »

Research in Motion has silently launched the Playbook in the US and Canada. RIM even canceled the press event that should help get the Playbook in the hands of the many BlackBerry fans. According to analysts, this move from RIM is because of the many negative reviews of the Playbook that are on the internet.

A RIM spokesman criticizes the reviews as the Playbook is slammed by reviewers over strategic decisions from RIM like the absence of a 3G version. The Playbook is the first BlackBerry device with an OS based on QNX, which will be installed on many Smartphones to come.

We played with the Playbook about two weeks back and were pretty satisfied with the experience, though batterylife was a drama. Of course, our playdate with the playbook lasted only ten minutes so we didn’t have time to really dig into the device.
