PICNIC09: Vodafone 360 in Detail

September 24th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

Vodafone

Today in Amsterdam, Vodafone presented the Vodafone 360 environment we spoke about earlier this week. The CEO of Vodafone UK admitted they underestimated the introduction of the iPhone, but this should make up for it.

The Vodafone 360 platform is all about having a connected experience wherever you are and however you connect. This means you will have one shared contact list that you can access on your phone, PC, Facebook, MSN and many other locations. The technology to support this feature is available on over 100 devices already.

The platform will also hold a wide range of apps that can be accessed both via the phone and on the PC or Mac, but tailor-made 360 handsets are still privileged to provide the best experience. These handsets are based on LiMo and might mean the official entry for the OS in the smartphone competition in Europe.

By Christmas, the platform should be live in 8 countries and for the Netherlands which piloted the MobileMe environment it will mostly mean a rebranding.

“Vodafone 360 is the first service of its kind to offer customers the benefits of a truly integrated mobile internet experience that gathers all their contacts and content, all around them, in one place,” said Pieter Knook, Director of Internet Services at Vodafone Group.

“The beauty of Vodafone 360 is that all the services work together and they are easy to use.  Vodafone 360 enables customers’ digital lives.  Customers can stay in touch and share experiences through social networks, instant messaging, email, apps, maps, music and buying digital content on their mobile bill, with the personalised address book at its heart.”
