In Flurry’s latest report, the company shows that Apple’s App Store keeps growing faster compared to facebook. Flurry also provides insights into who is developing all those apps on there.
According to Flurry’s findings, 53.000 ($5.247.000 in annual development fees) unique companies have been responsible for filling the app store. Every day, 58 new companies are added. The company registered 140.000 apps for the iPhone wile facebook is currently at 60.000. The growth of iPhone apps is bigger than facebook as well which means it is not likely to overtake apple anytime soon.
22% of the companies that create mobile games and apps originate from the online industry. These are social networks, online gaming developer etc etc. 20% of the companies where actually founded for iPhone development. The traditional gaming industry takes third spot with 19%. Retailers and media companies both have a 17% share. Traditional mobile developers represent only 5% of the pie. This shows traditional mobile gaming companies have probably not been able to monetize their excellence in mobile development on this platform.
