Nokia’s global head of production, Dan Scott, took the stage to talk about Nokia’s vision that mobile games should keep innovating to grow the mobile gaming market.
Innovate on Hardware
Dan Scott believes a lot of gains can come with hardware. Nokia has always enabled special hardware features to the development public, like the light controls in the Nokia 3230. As so, Dan firmly believes that there is a lot to gain in the new devices that allow developers to develop games based on technologies like GPS, Camera, Tilt Sensors and Touch Screens.
Innovate on Connectivity
Also Dan explains the possibilities to innovate on connectivity. Cross-Platform gaming is one of many possibilities where PC and mobile gamers compete in the same game, or multiple games take part in the same world, meaning the outcome of a platform game can change the setting in a strategy game which is being played. Also marketing methods can benefit as mobile games in Korea are already successfully utilizing micro-billing transactions. Something like micro-billing is a good foundation to roll out mobile games with episodic content.
The N-Gage Vision
The N-Gage platform is well suited for innovation on connectivity. It holds a lot of community features already like global leaderboards. With N-Gage, Dan Scott hopes that Nokia can stimulate the whole mobile games industry.
