As of February, Nielsen reports that nearly half of the US residents with a mobile contract own a smartphone. In February 2011, the percentage of smartphone owners was just 36%.
Android is leading the smartphone race in the US as 48% of all smartphones are based on Google’s OS. Another 32.1% goes to iOS and another 11.6% to BlackBerry OS. Though in total, iOS is still nearly 16% away from Android, figures on smartphone purchases over the past three months show a different number. Still 48% bought an Android, but 43% bought an iPhone.
