Developing mobile games for smartphones offers huge possibilities in the form of graphics and sound quality, let alone the complexity of the games. Today, Namco chose to enter this arena.
Namco will release various of their classics for the Windows Mobile handset range of the North American operator AT&T. The list includes Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Dig Dug and Galaga. After releasing the games on both J2me and Brew, this means the games will enter a third mobile platform, or at least so it seems… Windows Mobile devices of the last one or two years also carry J2me, which means a normal J2me port is the more obvious route to take. Anyway, the press release didn’t tell us much about the strategy here.
"With the continued demand for our top mobile games on all available wireless devices, we are confident that our games will be as popular among AT&T’s smart device users as they are among other mobile gamers. By partnering with AT&T to launch these popular titles for smart devices, we see a great opportunity to introduce new consumers to mobile gaming through this platform." said Namco Networks’ Scott Rubin.
