MWC: Windows Marketplace Opens Borders

February 17th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Windows Mobile | No Comments »

Windows-phone On February 18th, Microsoft will open the borders in the Windows Marketplace. This is a great step forward for consumers in non-English territories as till now, Microsoft only allowed them to see apps that were fully localized.

For countries like The Netherlands, this means the offering of downloadable games and apps will explode through the market’s World View option. This strategy is also a great plus compared to the App Store from competitor Apple where consumers are limited to shop in their own markets.

For both app store, there have been workarounds. On iTunes it has been possible to register a new account in another country via scratch cards while a Dutch developers created a patch that allows consumers to spoof their country ID.
