Nokia
Lately we came across many rumours saying that Nokia would be launching an App Store concept in order to compete with Apple's. Today, the company unveiled it's plans for the Ovi store.

The Ovi Store will be launching in May of this year. It's a self-service publishing solution open to developers of both mobile games and applications.

With a 70% revenue share, all the applications and content distributed through this new service create new revenue opportunities for the developers involved. Dedicated and comprehensive resources and support from Forum Nokia are available to help developers get their applications ready for commercial distribution through the Store. Additionally, the new Ovi Store will be the premium distribution channel for Adobe Flash applications created using funds from the Open Screen Project fund (will be handled in a next post).

The Ovi Store is a scalable media distribution network with advanced content targeting capabilities that will offer consumers relevant content through their social connections and their physical location information.

The content in the Ovi Store will be available for both Nokia Series 40 and S60 devices. The Nokia N97 multimedia device, available in June, will be the first device to include the simple and easy-to-use storefront.

At the time of launch in early May, the Ovi Store is expected to be available to tens of millions of Nokia devices, and the service is expected to reach an estimated 300 million consumers by 2012. For content providers and developers, this provides an opportunity to reach a potential universe of hundreds of millions of people, making it the world's largest media network.
