Ronald Siebes from Roomloaded has taken the stage to explain a bit more about gaming on urban screens with your phone, technology made possible with a Dutch open source project called RoomWare.
Urban Screen Gaming is based on keytones from mobile phone keypads. The keytones are translated to movement. Ronald is demonstrating a game made for the Dutch railways (NS) where players have to reach their destination by train in time. It is pretty much snake with trains but it is working pretty nice.
The system can be connected to many web based (flash) games, but the XML based API is also available for public votes during meetings or events. And the company is in discussion with TV stations to allow live playing for viewers of TV shows. There is a live setup at the moment as well on a square in Lelystad (NL).
Developers interested in working with the API can register for a developer event on July 17th and 18th via ronald@roomloaded.com.
The Mobile Unconference is sponsored by Samsung Mobile
