We stroke down in Rotterdam for the fourth edition of the Mobile Unconference. The schedule is stuffed, but the first session we joined is a group discussion with the topic “Are Apps the new Bubble”.
Several developers present are somewhat concerned if apps are the new bubble. One of the examples is the Color app that recently launched after huge venture backing, but failing to achieve any real success so far. That could as well be the social bubble given the nature of the app. The bureaus specializing in app development are clear on the topic. Every week they get multiple new clients asking for apps, but being clueless on what they want to do with it. So the business of developing apps is very healthy right now, but perhaps having an app is a bit overrated. To conclude, the end is not nearing, but we’ll know in a year or two.
