More Rumors on Thursday’s Apple Event

April 7th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Apple As the iPhone 4.0 unveiling draws closer, more rumors start dripping into our mailbox. Though we will be doing a liveblog tomorrow at 19:00 GMT+1, here’s some of the stuff we deem probable;

First off, there will be new API’s for developers to feast their eyes on. Rumors are vague about them, but a new OS would not make sense without new functionality.

The multitasking rumors we posted yesterday are backed by the fact that this functionality might be needed for the iPad which should have enough resources to handle that. At the same time that also draws more speculation toward the new iPhone hardware that is coming this summer.

By the way, T-Mobile NL is dropping prices in iPhone 3GS subscriptions so they are clearing stock!

Apple could also be introducing iAd, their mobile advertising network. Rumors about this have been flying over the internet since Apple bought a mobile advertising company a few months ago. Will that new product be ready though? We still have some doubt. Yet it could mean changes to the iTunes regulations as Apple might want to force developers to only use iAd’s for advertising. Advertising is one of the few revenuestreams left where Apple doesn’t earn money on the App Store at the moment. This last feeling is backed by the fact that Apple already started to disallow use of GPS data for advertising.
