At the Mobile Games Forum, M:Metrics reported that the mobile games market is growing slowly, taking the UK as an example.
M:Metrics states that only 4.8% of the UK handset owners actually download mobile games while 87.7% of the total population owns a mobile phone. In the US, only 3.3% of the phone owners download mobile games.
Pre-Loaded games perform much better. A quarter of the population that owns mobile phones is playing them on a monthly basis.
20% of the mobile gamers are under 24. An important age group for SonyEricsson which is the most popular gaming brand according to M:Metrics.
In genders, M:Metrics also sees a big difference. While females are slightly more interested in actually purchasing mobile games, males where much more interested in trials of the software. Females are interested mainly in strategy, puzzle and quiz games whereas males go for sports and shooters.
