In an interview with Charlie Kindle from Microsoft, the exec announced to Dutch tech site tweakers.net that the strategy for multitasking isn’t fully set. There might be exceptions.
Kindle admits that some apps can only deliver a good quality experience if there are processes running in the background. An example would be a location based alarm clock that should trigger at a certain coordinate. Developers would never be able to deliver such software based purely on push messaging.
As so, there might be exceptions in the future that will allow apps to run background processes, but there will be tough restrictions to them to ensure proper performance. Right now however, Microsoft is focusing at the launch of Windows Phone 7 which means multitasking will probably not be added this year.
This announcement was made during the Microsoft Dev Days last week.
