Microsoft Puts restrictions on Marketplace Apps

May 2nd, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Windows Phone | No Comments »

Yesterday, Microsoft made clear the new policy for the Windows Phone Marketplace will be quality over quantity. Microsoft has put some more restrictions in place to kick out ‘unwanted’ apps.

App developers are no longer allowed to use brands they don’t have a license for (sounds logic though). Also, Microsoft is putting more restrictions on adult content. Just like Apple, Windows Phone users will not be allowed to look at naked people. Not even if they are looking really good. Bathing suits are allowed as long as users don’t start filing complaints. Microsoft already had a ban on adult content, but the company kind of admitted some adult content did manage to make it to the market.

There will also be some technical restrictions to apps. Different apps are no longer allowed to share the same icon and the icon has to be descriptive to the functionality of the app. Developers will also be limited to submitting only 5 keywords per app. Developers listing more keywords risk keyword removal by Microsoft.
