Microsoft Acquires Danger

April 17th, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | No Comments »

MicrosoftMicrosoft has finalized the acquisition of device manufacturer Danger. This means Microsoft now has the technology to produce Windows Mobile based devices, but can also use Danger technologies to optimize it’s mobile OS.

The company (including it’s two founders) will be added to Microsoft’s Premium Mobile Experiences (PMX) team. Microsoft has acquired the company in order to provide “new cool mobile experiences” to consumers.

Danger’s mobile phones are known as Sidekicks and HipTop’s. If the Danger name will be maintained is questionable. Also, this acquisition might fire up the Zune Mobile rumours. There are no financial details around the acquisition, but Microsoft did say that there will be no loss of jobs.
