US research bureau Lookout has calculated that Android Market grew 127% over the past six months. Apple’s growth in percentage is significantly lower with ‘just’ 44%.
Looking at actual numbers, the App Store is still growing faster than Android. Lookout expects that Android Market will outgrow the App Store in the second half of 2012.
Apple currently has 24.000 developers working on apps compared to 4.000 on Android. Android developers create 6.2 apps while Apple developers create 4.8 apps each.
Another interesting find in the report from Lookout is that the percentage of paid apps on the Android Market grew from 22% to 34% while they declined on the App Store from 71% to 66%. 28% of Android apps request access to a user’s location compared to 34% on iOS.
