From the view of a mid-size mobile games developer and publisher the strategy of the giant EA and its mobile division seems clear. After checking out the success of mobile gaming by licensing some IPs to Digital Bridges (now I-play) in 2003, EA made a big first appearance on the mobile market with the acquisition of Jamdat for a sum of $680 million in late 2005. With this move the leadership on the US market is untouchable with a market share of about 30%.
So what is next? EA Mobile plans its “world domination” by saying “We’re focusing on some other territories now that we have the big mothership of EA providing resources.”. Does this mean the huge license portfolio or simply financial cover to increase its presence in other regions?
The next logical step for EA is to conquer the European market
I dont think so – UBI will buy Gameloft first. Look at the ownership
UBI owns shares in Gameloft, and EA owns shares in UBI…
