Interpret: Gamers Ditch Handhelds for Phones

December 10th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Research & Stats | No Comments »

According to a study from US based market researcher Interpret, Gamers are abandoning their DS and PSP to play on their Smartphones. This news brings a cheer to SonyEricsson and a tear to Nintendo.

43.8% of mobile gamers prefer their phones over their handhelds, an increase of 50% compared to the same study in 2009. The number of handheld gamers officially declined 13%. 27.1% of mobile gamers say they own a PSP or DS< but don’t play on it anymore.

SonyEricsson’s move to bring the Playstation Phone on the market seems to be perfect timing as Nintendo’s 3DS will not have any phone functionality.
